Rabi Crop Cultivation Report 2023-24: Overall Cultivation Area Yet to See An Upsurge
The Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare has recently released the latest progress in the area coverage for Rabi crops as of January 19, 2024. The agricultural landscape reflects a significant expansion, with wheat cultivation leading the way, surpassing an impressive 340 lakh hectares. Shri Anna cum Coarse cereals also exhibit robust growth, with a sown area exceeding 53 lakh hectares. The positive momentum extends to various other crops, exemplified by oilseeds, which have seen a boost of 1.06 lakh hectares.

Angad Singh Kushwaha's Journey in Banana Cultivation: A Triumph in Kaarari
In the heart of Kaarari village, Kaushambi district, Uttar Pradesh, resides Angad Singh Kushwaha, an enterprising farmer redefining success in agriculture. Breaking away from conventional practices, Angad has turned banana cultivation into a lucrative venture, earning him annual profits in lakhs. Kushwaha's agricultural legacy began in 1986 when his father pioneered banana cultivation in Kaushambi, becoming the first farmer in the district to do so. Following his education in 1996, Angad joined his father in cultivating bananas and potatoes. The family initially leased land for cultivation, starting with traditional crops before venturing into horticulture with lemon, cranberry, and later, papaya.

Sugarcane Mills Achieve 96% Payout Amidst Concerns of Uneven Payments
Amidst the ongoing sugar season in India, recent data from the sugar commissioner's office reveal progress in sugarcane processing. A total of 202 mills are actively crushing sugarcane, processing 441.01 lakh tonnes (lt) and accruing a cumulative gross payable Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of Rs 13,642 crore. Impressively, mills have disbursed Rs 13,056 crore, covering 96 percent of the total payable FRP, with arrears amounting to Rs 586 crore, sparking demands for prompt payments. However, regional disparities and concerns over sugarcane shortage are emerging, raising questions about the overall landscape of sugarcane cultivation in India.
