  • Northwest, South India likely to Receive Heavy Rainfall during next two days

    According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), many parts of peninsular India and north-western parts of the country, mainly Uttar Pradesh and a part of the north-east that includes Meghalaya and Assam, are likely to witness heavy rainfall on Wednesday (2nd September 2020). It said that a low-pressure area is lying over Pakistan & neighboring western Rajasthan.

    IMD said heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm is expected over north-west India and western Himalayan region, including Delhi, Punjab & Haryana on Thursday and over central parts of India on Wednesday and Thursday.

  • Flood in Assam Damages Crops Worth Rs 1,000 Crore

    The Assam government told the Assembly on Tuesday that crops worth Rs 1,000 crore were destroyed during the flood this year, which has affected around 2.8 lakh hectare of farm land across the state.

    Agriculture Minister Atul Bora said that “The exact amount of loss would be known after the disaster management bodies finish the assessment of the damage. However, we guess the loss would be around Rs 1,000 crore”. He added that to lessen the crisis of farmers, 3 proposals worth Rs 139.64 crore, Rs 45.39 crore & Rs 38.43 crore have been submitted.

    India so far has recorded 37,69,523 confirmed Coronavirus cases, including 66,333 deaths. The highest number of cases have been reported from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh & Tamil Nadu. However, infections are increasing rapidly in states like Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh & West Bengal.

    Worldwide, there have been more than 2.56 crore confirmed cases of COVID-19. Over 8.54 lakh people have died so far.
