  • J&K Administration Comes Up with ISDS Scheme to Boost Sheep Farming

    According to an official statement released by the J&K administration, an integrated sheep development scheme (ISDS) was launched on Monday (14 November 2022) to promote the commercial base of those involved in sheep farming. It further added that the various schemes apart from ISDS has been launched by the local authorities to increase the aware the locals of the latest methods and techniques regarding sheep farming with an initiative to increase their revenue from the occupation. The livelihood of nearly 12 lakhs families is associated directly or indirectly with the animal husbandry sector in the union territory.

    With an ambition to boost farm production and double the income of the farmers, the Assam government has launched a special initiative termed as Assam Millet Mission. "Launched Assam Millet Mission, targeted to raise nutrition quotient & doubling farmers’ income. To increase productivity, it will also contribute in crop diversification", Sarma tweeted via his official Twitter handle. "Distributed power tillers, pump sets, mini trucks, harvesters, crop seeds, financial aids among beneficiaries", he added.

    Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Water Resources said that new crop varieties are being developed using modern technology as part of efforts to ensure the country's food security and provide good nutrition to the public. The session took place at Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University and also recorded the presence of AP agriculture minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy and water resources minister Ambati Rambabu, in Tirupati. While addressing the students and faculty of the University, Shekhawat talked about the research and development that took place in the sector and highlighted the achievements of the agriculture industry of the nation.

  • Now, 'Edible Drone' to Deliver Life-Saving Food Amid Crisis

    In a unique inventiveness, a prototype of an edible drone has been created by researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL). The drone consists of fixed edible wings that bring its mass ratio for carrying food to 50 per cent. The project is a part of 'RoboFood', an initiative that aims to create edible robots that can be consumed by both humans and animals. At the recent IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) conference in Kyoto, a presentation on the invention of the edible drone was presented. "Towards edible drones for rescue missions: design and flight of nutritious wings," read the title of the research article.

  • Centre Permits Sugar Exports of 14,447 Tonnes to the US & EU Under Quota Systems

    The directorate general of foreign trade (DGFT) on November 16 notified its decision to permit sugar exports of 8,606 tonnes to the US and 5,841 tonnes to the EU under the quota systems there at zero or concessional duties. India, the second-largest producer and consumer of sugar worldwide, has a preferential quota agreement for sugar export with the European Union. After a surge in outbound shipments threatened to deplete local supplies, it was forced to set a limit on sugar exports at 11.2 million tonnes in the current marketing year.
