  • Food Corporation of India Sells 3.85 Lakh Tonnes of Wheat in Open Market

    Food Corporation of India (FCI) has sold twenty five percent of the wheat offered for sale during the second round of e-auction, held on February 15. This translates to around 3.85 lakh tonnes of the total 15.25 lt of wheat offered for sale in open market. The weighted average price observed in the second round stood at ₹2,338.01/quintal average realized price was ₹2,474/quintal in the first round while the average realized price was ₹2,474/quintal in the first round, as stated by the Food Ministry.

  • AARDO Concludes its International Millet Training Programme Successfully

    Today’s training session was moderated by Prof. M Moni, Ex-DG of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and Professor Emeritus at Shobhit Institute of Engineering and Technology addressing the participants from across African and Asian countries. He started the training programme by introducing Adeniran Ayodeji Bobby (Deputy Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture Nigeria) to the audience. Adeniran Ayodeji Bobby (Deputy Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture Nigeria)gave a brief about his presentation entitled “Strategies to start up youths in the millet value chain.” He mentioned how every country is working on a road map towards shifting from forefront cereal crops such as rice, wheat, and sorghum to millet. 

  • Farmer Leader Rakesh Tikait Urges Displaced Farmers to Protest Against Land Grabbing by Corporates in Chhattisgarh

    A public meeting was organized by the Chhattisgarh Kisan Sabha, where farmer leader Rakesh Tikait addressed the farmers affected by the SECL Gevra project. During the meeting, Tikait appealed to the farmers to resort to a massive protest if their demands are not met by the central and state governments. Tikait alleged that both the central and state governments want to give land to industrialists by snatching it from the poor. He emphasized that the fight to save the land in Chhattisgarh has become the biggest battle, with agitations going on in 22 places across the state. Tikait urged thousands of farmers present in the meeting to fight together against the central and state governments if their six-point demands are not fulfilled.

     

  • Need to Increase Funds to Help Farmers Fight Climate Change, Say G20 Members

    The G20 members recently held their first Agriculture Deputies' Meeting in which they discussed a number of important issues related to agriculture and food security. One of the key topics that was discussed was the impact of climate change on the agriculture sector, and the need to increase climate finance to support farmers in adapting to the changes. During the meeting, the agriculture secretary of India, Manoj Ahuja, explained that the members felt there was a need to create an environment for increasing climate financing. This would involve financing farmers for adaptation measures such as adopting climate-friendly farming techniques and green agriculture. One way to incentivize farmers could be through the use of carbon credits.
