  • Dept of Fisheries Holds 2-Day ‘Annual Plan Preparation’ Workshop for Commissioners/Directors of All States/UTs’

    Department of Fisheries, Government of India, organised a two-day 'Annual Plan Preparation' workshop from 4-5 January 2023, for fisheries officials from all States/UTs to brainstorm, share information, and resolve on-the-ground challenges through effective and efficient planning. Jatindra Nath Swain, Secretary, DoF (GoI), presided over the workshop, which was attended by senior officials from the Department of Fisheries (GoI), the NFDB, and state fisheries departments. The workshop was a huge success thanks to the attendance of 47 officials from 26 different states and territories.

     

  • 2 FPOs Practicing Natural, Organic Farming Got Approval in Rajkot

    The Rajkot district-level monitoring committee of Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs) has approved the formation of two new FPOs by farmers engaged in cow-centered natural farming and organic farming. Organic farming works in harmony with nature, not against it. This entails employing techniques to increase crop yields while causing no harm to the natural environment or the people who live and work in it.

     

  • Wheat Crisis: Pakistan Farmers Request Govt to Declare ‘Agricultural Emergency’

    In the midst of Pakistan's ongoing wheat crisis, the farmer's body, Pakistan Kissan Ittehad (PKI), urged authorities on January 11 to declare an agricultural emergency. PKI President Khalid Mehmood Khokhar criticised the government's policy at a press conference, claiming that as a result, the country would still need to buy wheat in 2023.

     

  • "People in ESZ won’t be Displaced, Can Continue Agri & Horticulture Practices": Centre

    The Centre has also stated that activities carried out in eco-sensitive zone (ESZs) are generally regulated, with only commercial mining, stone quarrying, and crushing units prohibited. The establishment of a buffer or eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) around protected forests and sanctuaries would not result in the displacement of people living there, nor would it have an impact on agriculture and horticulture practices, according to the Centre.

    The longest luxury river trip in the world sets sail today. The journey is made on the MV Ganga Vilas, a high-end yacht. The route to set from Varanasi to Bangladesh and then to Dibrugarh, Assam. The inaugural trip was taken by 32 Swiss visitors. On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing inaugurated the MV Ganga Vilas, the world's longest river cruise.
