  • Punjab Farmers Protest Against Central Govt at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar

    Thousands of farmers staged a protest march Monday towards Parliament against the Union Government, calling for an immediate stop to the transfer of Punjab water to non-riparian states and a legal guarantee of the Minimum Support Price (MSP). On Monday, a huge number of farmers from Punjab assembled at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to oppose the center and press for certain demands to be fulfilled. 

     

  • Farmers Switch Their Crops in Response to Climate Change Crisis

    According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's Sixth Assessment Report, India is among the countries most susceptible to the effects of climate change, which can wreak havoc on its farm sector, which remains the country's largest source of employment. Farmers in India are concerned about the risks posed by the climate crisis, and most have developed a backup plan in the face of increasingly extreme weather patterns, according to data. In the face of increasing water scarcity, many cultivators in Tamil Nadu are growing sesame instead of groundnut.

     

  • Indian Govt Stands Firm to Get Exclusive EU Tag for Basmati Rice

    According to official sources, India will keep working on its application for an exclusive Geographical Indication (GI) tag for its basmati rice in the European Union (EU) and will not consider any other solution because it could jeopardize the fragrant rice's exclusivity in other markets. According to traders & experts, the EU is probably trying to "browbeat India (from its firm stand) in its trade talks to gain access to its wines and whisky." The development follows the EU's attempt to put pressure on India to modify its application by including basmati-growing areas in Pakistan or to file an additional joint application with Pakistan. Since July 2018, the issue of the GI tag for Indian basmati rice has been pending.

    A tribal farmer from Bhejapadar village in Koraput district of Odisha’s Dasmantpur block used to process only two quintals of ragi or finger millet from his one acre of land practicing traditional agricultural methods.

    Aamir Khan led Paani Foundation hosted the award ceremony for the implementation of the best agricultural practices, cost of cultivation, residue-free farming, and productivity improvisation. On Sunday, Farmers Group Association Parivartan Shetkari Gat from Amravati district won the first prize at the “Satyamev Jayate Farmer Cup” hosted by actor Aamir Khan led Paani Foundation.
