World Bank Delegation Visits PAU to Review NAHEP and Explore Collaborations
A delegation of esteemed experts from the World Bank recently visited Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in Ludhiana to review the National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) and discuss potential research collaborations. The delegation included Mr. Bekzod Shamsiev, Senior Agriculture Economist and Task Team Leader for NAHEP, and Dr. Gerry Boyle, a consultant for the World Bank on the NAHEP project. The meeting was hosted by PAU’s Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, in Chandigarh.

Yara India Releases Its Second India Sustainability Report FY 2023
Yara India, a part of Norwegian multinational Yara International - the world’s leading crop nutrition company and a provider of agricultural, industrial, and environmental solutions, released its second Sustainability Report on June 13, 2024. The report outlines Yara India’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by improving energy efficiency, adopting renewable energy, and implementing sustainable farming practices. The company has set a target to cut GHG emissions by 70,000 tCO2e by 2026.

APEDA Facilitates First Consignment of MD 2 Pineapples from India to UAE, Boosting Fresh Fruit Export Sector
The first consignment of pineapples of the MD 2 variety has been successfully exported to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. shipment, weighing 8.7 metric tons and consisting of 650 boxes of MD 2 pineapples, was officially launched by APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev. This is a significant boost for India's fresh fruit export sector.

ICAR-IISWC Distributes Dual-Purpose Vanaraja Chicks to Boost Rural Livelihoods in Dehradun's Kalsi Block
ICAR-IISWC (Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation) in Dehradun has initiated a program aimed at improving poultry farming among rural communities. As part of the SC-SP (Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan) program, the institute distributed one-month-old dual-purpose Vanaraja chicks to 30 families across several villages in the Kalsi Block of Dehradun. These chicks are renowned for their dual benefits of providing both eggs and meat, thus serving as a sustainable source of nutrition and income.

IISc Researchers Develop Sustainable Method to Remove Arsenic from Groundwater
Researchers at the Centre for Sustainable Technologies (CST), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), have devised an innovative process for eliminating heavy metal contaminants, specifically arsenic, from groundwater. This novel, three-step remediation method, which is pending a patent, not only effectively removes arsenic but also ensures environmentally safe disposal of the extracted contaminants, avoiding the re-entry of untreated heavy metals into groundwater from landfills.
