  • Kenya Becomes First African Country to Introduce & Adopt ePhytos

    Kenya has taken an important step toward international marketing of its agricultural products by becoming the first African country to introduce and adopt electronic phytosanitary certification (ephyto), which is expected to improve the quality of trade with the European market as part of the ongoing agriculture digitalization programme. Phytosanitary certificates (ePhytos) are official documents issued by governments confirming that shipments of plants and plant products traded internationally are pest and disease free and, thus, safe to import. Until recently, these certificates were always physical paper documents sent between parties via mail, courier, or other physical means. The ePhyto Solution enables countries to electronically exchange ePhytos with one another via a central hub in a timely, accurate, and low-cost manner.

  • PMGKAY: Centre Allots 1,118 lakh tonnes Foodgrain & Rs 3.91 lakh crore as Subsidy under the Scheme

    The Government has allocated 1,118 lakh tonnes of foodgrains to states and union territories for free distribution under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) so far, with a food subsidy outlay of around 3.91 lakh crore, according to a statement from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution. "In the 2020-21 fiscal year, 1,13,185 crore was allocated to implement the PMGKAY, followed by 1,47,212 crore in 2021-22 and 1,30,600 crore in 2022-23," the ministry said. In March 2020, PMGKAY was launched to provide free 5 kg foodgrains per person per month to approximately 80 crore beneficiaries covered by the National Food Security Act (NFSA).

    Big news for farmers! As per several media reports, the government may release the 13th Installment of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana on or before Christmas i.e., 25 December. However, the government has made no official announcement regarding releasing the installment on Christmas. Before the financial assistance is released, the Centre has asked all the beneficiaries of the scheme to update their e-KYC. Although most of them have completed it, still there are many who haven’t done it till now. Farmers who have not updated the e-KYC may not get Rs. 2000.

  • Sugarcane Farmers in Haryana Demand SAP Hike to Rs. 450 pq

    Farmers of Haryana remain agitated as the rates of sugarcane still remain undecided along with their demands to increase the price of sugarcane from Rs. 362 per quintal to Rs. 450 per quintal. Punjab Govt. recently increased the price of sugarcane in Punjab for the year of 2022-23 from Rs. 360 per quintal to Rs. 380 per quintal. The demonstration at the Naraingarh Sugar Mill was held from 11 am to 2pm, if demands are not met by the Haryana Govt. the demonstrations will continue, according to the BKU. The Sugarcane crushing season has already begun on November 20th and Haryana Govt. is yet to fix the price of the yield for the coming season.
