Bulk Tea Prices Seen a Jump Due to Supply Constraints: ICRA
In its most recent quarterly report on bulk tea, rating agency ICRA stated that three consecutive years of sub-normal production from 2020 to 2022, combined with a higher volume of export from India, are expected to result in a significant tightness in pipeline stock, which is likely to provide some support to bulk tea prices heading into the new season. The economic crisis in Sri Lanka has resulted in production losses in the island nation, which is the world's largest exporter of orthodox (ODX) tea. This has kept supply tight in the international market in CY2022, leading to higher volumes of export from India and ODX tea prices in the domestic market.

Andhra Pradesh: Chandrababu Naidu Expresses Concern Over 'Increasing Farmers Suicides'
While the state set records in agriculture and aqua exports during the TDP regime, it had now become a "Suicide State" with 1,673 farmer deaths reported in the last three years; he tweeted on Saturday. In a series of tweets, Naidu stated that without focusing on such serious public issues, the State government's talk of a united Andhra Pradesh is ridiculous. According to Naidu, the state that once made history in agriculture and aquaculture has recorded 1,673 farmer suicides in the last three years.

Erdogan Discusses Expanding Scope of Black Sea Grain Deal with Putin & Zelenskiy
On Sunday, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan met with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine to discuss the Black Sea grain export agreement, as both sides seek changes that will increase their exports. Turkey and the UN acted as a mediator in the grain deal, which opened Ukrainian ports to exports after a six-month de facto Russian blockade. Moscow wants better guarantees for its own food and fertilizer exports, while Kiev wants the agreement expanded to include more Ukrainian ports. Following his call with Putin, Erdogan called for an end to the conflict and said Moscow could begin working on exporting more food and commodities through the Black Sea grain corridor.

High Density Planting System Increases Cotton Yield By 30 to 50 percent
Telangana Farmers have successfully completed an experiment with the high-density planting system (HDPS), which promises to increase cotton yields by 30 to 50 percent to overcome stagnation and improve yields. Scientists from Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) and the State Agricultural Ministry have conducted HDPS demonstrations in farmers' fields across 26 districts in Telangana, covering approximately 3,642 hectares. According to one scientist, it's the equivalent of growing three acres of cotton on one acre. Unlike traditional cotton, which farmers continue to pick for 3 to 4 pickings, the HDPS crop yields all of the output in just one picking, allowing farmers to plant a short-term crop before the regular Rabi crop.

APEDA to Simplify NOC for Organic Farmers; Experts Desire More
If farmers want to switch certification agencies for organic produce, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has proposed that they apply online for a no objection certificate (NOC). However, experts believe the move falls short of the goal of ensuring a farmer's "hassle-free and time-bound" transition from one agency to another. The issue has been pending since last year, when it was discovered in Madhya Pradesh that fictitious organic produce growers' groups were listed in the National Programme for Organic Production's (NPOP) internal control system (ICS). APEDA later suspended some certification firms, while others announced the discontinuation of certification in commodities such as cotton and soyabean.

The US Embassy’s Department of Agriculture has been urged to reach out to additional Indian cities, beginning with a spirit-tasting flagship initiative hosted by the US Consul General in Kolkata on Saturday, to rekindle the rising demand of alcoholic drinks in various cities. The demand for premium American alcoholic beverages in major cities such as Delhi and Mumbai witnessed a significant jump of more than double of what it was a year before. This year, the US closed a transaction worth $12.7 million for distilled spirits in India, which happens to be double of what it earned last year i.e. $5.8 million.

Good News for Dairy Farmers! Govt. Plans to Give Genetic Boost to This Indigenous Cattle Breed
Uttarakhand is currently preparing for the genetic enhancement of its native Badri cow, which grazes on herbs that grow in the Himalayas, to raise its productivity. The Animal Husbandry Department suggested using sex-sorted semen technology at a recent chintan shivir (brainstorming session) that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held with top state officials to increase the stock of the small Badri cattle. To increase the number of cattle with a high genetic stock, officials suggested using the embryo transfer technique.
