  • Coronavirus Updates: Telangana continues to record more COVID- 19 recoveries 

    Telangana continues to see more recoveries from COVID-19 than the new cases. According to the health department, 1,745 people recovered from the infection while 1,196 new cases were detected during the last 24 hours. The new infections pushed the overall tally to 2,53,651. Five more people succumbed to the virus during the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 1,390. The state's fatality rate stands 0.54 per cent against the national average of 1.5 per cent. 

  • UN peacekeeping chief Lacroix tests positive for COVID-19 

    UN Undersecretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix has tested positive for coronavirus, Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said. Dujarric told reporters at the regular noon briefing on Tuesday that the diagnosis was made while Lacroix was in Portugal, where he was scheduled to attend a meeting on Security Council Resolution 1325, Xinhua news agency stated.

    Minister of Textiles has appealed that “To encourage Diwali sales through weavers, artisans, local and small businesses please show you're on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and use the hashtag #Local4Diwali. Take a picture of your favourite article – be it clothing or a handicraft product you would like to gift or use at home for Diwali, tag the person you purchase it from and go #Local4Diwali.” 

     

  • Bahrain PM Khalifa Bin Salman passes away at 84 

    Bahraini Prime Minister Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, 84, died today in a hospital in the US, the country's royal court said. "The Royal Court mourns His Royal Highness... who passed away this morning at Mayo Clinic Hospital in the United States of America," stated by Bahrain News Agency said on Wednesday. 

  • Security tightened ahead of 'Deepotsav' in Ayodhya 

    The entry of outsiders in Ayodhya has been banned for four days beginning Wednesday. This is one of the many security measures taken in the temple town to beef up security ahead of the Deepotsav event. The Deepotsav celebrations will be held on November 13 on 'Chhoti Diwali'. This year's celebrations are special since it is the first after the Supreme Court gave the go-ahead for temple construction.

    The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) will soon reopen in a phased manner. The university has been closed since March when the national lockdown was announced to check the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
