  • 250 LMT Wheat Procured so far; Over 20 Lakh Farmers Benefit from Rs 47000 Cr MSP

    The ongoing wheat procurement operations have already benefitted about 20 Lakh farmers, with payment of more than Rs. 47,000 crores (at MSP) directly credited to their bank accounts. More farmers are expected to benefit from the ongoing procurement, as the process is continuing. The current procurement has already exceeded the total procurement of 188 Lac MT wheat during the entire RMS 2022-23. The Food Corporation of India and other state agencies are involved in procurement operations, which are progressing smoothly in all the procuring states across the country. On a daily average, more than 2 Lakh MT of wheat is still being procured. The major contribution to the procurement has come from three wheat-procuring states of Punjab, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh, with procurement of 118.68 LMT, 62.18 LMT, and 66.50 LMT, respectively.

  • US, UAE Climate-Friendly Farming Fund Reaches USD 13 Bn Milestone

    Food systems currently contribute between a quarter and a third of global greenhouse emissions due to deforestation, methane emissions from animals, energy expenditures linked with supply chains, and energy consumed by consumers to store and prepare food. Meanwhile, climate change is threatening global food security by increasing the frequency of heat waves, droughts, and extreme weather events. The initiative was launched in 2021 with the aim of generating more ecologically friendly and climate-resilient agricultural practices globally. According to US Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, climate change is having an impact on long-standing agricultural practices in every country.

  • Malviya Manila Sinchit Dhan-1: BHU-IRRI's High-Yield Rice Variety Launching Soon

    This early ripening and high-yielding variety is expected to hit the markets in Uttar Pradesh shortly. The Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) approved the introduction of this variety during its 58th Annual Rice Group Meeting on May 4 and 5 at Assam Agricultural University Jorhat, Assam. According to a spokesperson from BHU, this rice variety is the result of 15 years of hard work by Prof Shravan Kumar Singh and his team of BHU scientists, including Jayasudha S, Dhirendra Kumar Singh, Akansha Singh, and IRRI scientists Arvind Kumar and Vikash Kumar Singh. The Government of Uttar Pradesh's Department of Agriculture has recommended the release of this new variety after three years of testing across the state.

  • Punjab Govt Grants Rs 4.07 Cr for Horticulture Promotion in Sangrur & Malerkotla Districts

    Under the National Horticulture Mission Scheme, farmers in the region will be financially supported to grow trees and expand their horticulture activities. The initiative aims to promote crop diversification and provide farmers with a self-sufficient environment while improving their income. The announcement regarding the grant was made during a meeting of the District Management Mission Committee by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Varjeet Walia. The horticulture sector in Sangrur has been growing rapidly due to the government's ongoing efforts to encourage farmers to adopt this subsidiary occupation.

  • Shobhit Institute of Engineering & Technology, AARDO Sign MoU for Agri Partnership

    Shobhit Institute of Engineering and Technology, a prominent educational institution, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Afro-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO) to establish a partnership between the two organizations.
