  • Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi Interacts with Fish Farmers During Visit to ICAR-NBFGR, Lucknow

    Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, OSD, Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, paid a visit to the ICAR - National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR) in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and met with fish farmers at the institute farms. The principal tasks of the ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR) include the collecting, characterization, categorization, and documentation of fish genetic resources from various aquatic environments around the country, as well as their conservation methods.

  • Jeera Reaches New High at Rs 48,000/quintal Due to Robust Export Demand

    On Monday, the price of jeera (cumin seed) reached a new high of Rs 48,420 per quintal on NCDEX due to a surge in export demand and limited supply. The NCDEX Jeera May futures peaked at ₹48,420 before dropping to Rs 46,560 later in the day. Jeera was the top performer on NCDEX Futures, rising over 3.4 percent. In the Unjha spot market in Gujarat, jeera hit Rs 47,985.90 per quintal. Over the past six months, the seed spice has risen by almost 90 percent, while it has increased by nearly 30 percent in the last month alone. The surge is being attributed to reduced crop yields and heightened demand, especially from China.

  • Indian Rice Prices Soar as Asian Nations Prepare to Tackle El Nino

    In Asia, the cost of raw white rice has seen a surge due to certain countries stockpiling the grain in anticipation of potential problems caused by the anticipated development of El Nino in the latter half of 2023. The Rice Exporters Association of India (TREA) President, BV Krishna Rao, explained that the likes of Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia are increasing their purchases of rice, thus driving up the price.

  • Wheat Procurement Reaches 72% of 34.15 MT Target, Exceeding Expectations

    According to the most recent official figures, wheat procurement has increased by 41% to 24.6% million tonnes (mt) as of May 7 in the current procurement season (April-June), compared to 17.53 mt a year earlier. For this season, the procurement goal has been set at 34.15 mt. Currently, over 85% of the 28.7 mt of wheat from three States, including Punjab(13.2 mt) Madhya Pradesh (8 mt) and Haryana (7.5 mt) has been met. However, the same results haven’t been achieved in other states as only 7% of the targeted 5.45 mt wheat was in demand.

  • Agri and Allied Sectors’ Crop Share Drop by 7.5 Percentage Point in Last 10 Years, NSO Reports
