Centre Raises Purchase Limit of Moong, Urad Under Price Support Scheme

The existing limit for farmers in Madhya Pradesh purchasing moong and urad under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) for summer 2021–2022 was increased from 25 to 40 quintals per farmer per day by the union government on Tuesday. This comes after Narendra Singh Tomar, the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and Kamal Patel, the Madhya Pradesh Minister for Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development, met to address issues affecting the farmers of Madhya Pradesh.

Mahalingam Govindaraj, a Telangana-based agriculture scientist, has won the prestigious 2022 Norman E. Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application for developing a variety of pearl millet rich in iron and zinc. Dhanashakti, the world's first biofortified pearl millet or bajra variety, was released for cultivation in 2014.
