'Sugarcane Production Likely to Drop By 10% to 330.5 Lakh Tonnes in the Current Marketing Season,' Says ISMA
The production of sugarcane is likely to fall by 10% to 330.5 lakh tonnes in the 2023-24 marketing year (October-September) from 366.2 lakh tonnes in 2022-23, according to the second advance estimates released by the Indian Sugar & Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) on Wednesday. The association estimated a decline in most of the large sugarcane-producing states of the country such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat. However, the estimates for Uttar Pradesh, the largest sugarcane production increased by a lakh tonne.

CropLife India Applauds Interim Budget 2024-25, Urges Comprehensive Measures in Full Budget
CropLife India, an association of 16 research-driven crop science companies, has expressed its appreciation for the interim Budget 2024-25. The association welcomes the government's emphasis on Innovation and Research & Development (R&D) as an important step towards providing farmers with newer and environmentally friendly crop protection products. Key highlights of the interim budget include a proposal for a 200 percent weighted deduction on R&D expenses by agrochemical companies, a call for a uniform basic customs duty of 10 percent for both technical raw materials and formulations, and a recommendation to reduce GST on agrochemicals from 18 percent to 12 percent.

Dhanuka Agritech Partners with Kimitec for Spain-Based Agri-Biotech Venture in India
Dhanuka Agritech, an agri-input company, has inked a 'Letter of Intent' with Spain-based biotech leader Kimitec. This collaboration aims to delve into various business opportunities, including the establishment of a joint venture and a research and development facility in India. Dhanuka Agritech and Kimitec are set to pioneer the development and commercialisation of biological products derived from natural molecules, utilising botany, microbiology, microalgae, and bioinformatics. These products, renowned for their sustainable attributes, promise enhanced crop protection, soil health, and plant nutrition, either stand-alone or in conjunction with conventional chemical solutions.

ICAR-IIVR Gears Up for 3-Day Mega Regional Agricultural Fair in Varanasi
The ICAR-IIVR (Indian Institute of Vegetable Research) is set to host a three-day Mega Regional Agricultural Fair at its Shahanshahpur campus from February 3rd to 5th, 2024. The event aims to focus on human health and farmer prosperity through the promotion of advanced agricultural practices across various domains. The Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Surya Pratap Shahi, will attend the occasion as the chief guest. Senior ICAR officials, including DDG (Hort), Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, DDG (Extension), Dr. US Gautam, and ADG, Dr. Sudhakar Pandey, will also be present at the fair in addition to ICAR Director General, Dr. Himanshu Pathak.
